Jaw pain, clenching, headaches, and even ear symptoms can trace back to the jaw joint. Dr. Reddy treats TMJ and jaw problems in Dripping Springs without surgery, starting by working out what is actually going on. He will not treat a jaw disorder until you understand your own situation.
What is TMJ or TMD?
The temporomandibular joints connect your lower jaw to your skull. When the joint or the muscles around it are strained, the result is called a temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Symptoms can include jaw pain or clicking, headaches, trouble sleeping, low energy, ear symptoms, and a jaw that tires when you chew.
Our approach
There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment. Dr. Reddy starts by asking what you want to improve, assesses the joint, muscles, bite, and airway, and gives you several options. He has taken extensive continuing education on the jaw joint through The Breathe Institute, Spencer Study Club, VIVOS, and Spear.
Treatments we offer
Splint and orthotic therapy
A custom mouthguard that helps retrain the jaw muscles. Depending on the case it may be worn at night, during the day, or both, and the aim is often to wean you off it over time.
Muscle retraining and physical therapy
Many jaw problems are really muscle problems. Dr. Reddy works with you to retrain the muscles for long-term jaw health. The ideal resting position for most people is teeth apart and lips together.
Pain management
Getting you out of pain comes first. If you have strong jaw pain, text the office. Early relief might be a temporary positioning splint, medication, or other therapy.
Tongue-tie release
A tight tongue can be one source of clenching and grinding. Where it is, releasing it removes a source of muscle tension. See tongue-tie treatment.
PRP / PRF
The jaw joint has limited blood supply, so healing is slow. For some patients we take a small blood sample, spin it to concentrate the healing components, and place it in the joint to support repair.
Airway and orthodontic care
Jaw strain and breathing are linked. Where airway or alignment is part of the picture, we address it too. See snoring and airway and teeth straightening.
Do I need surgery for TMJ?
Most jaw problems are treated without surgery. We focus on nonsurgical care.
Is clicking in my jaw a problem?
Not always. A click without pain often needs nothing. Pain, locking, or a jaw that’s changing is worth getting checked.
Can jaw problems cause headaches?
Yes. Tight jaw muscles are a common source of headaches, especially around the temples.
